100 YEARS OF SERVICE
1904 - 2004

While music has always been a part of life in the First Company Governor's Foot Guard, it was not until 1904, 133 years after the Foot Guard was chartered, that the Band was recognized and established as a permanent, regular part of the Company.   In celebration of the Band's birthday, First Company Commandant Dennis Conroy and Bandmaster Laura O'Connell have planned numerous appearances during the anniversary year in celebration.

The centerpiece of the First Company Governor’s Foot Guard Band's yearlong centennial celebration was a concert at the Bushnell Memorial, in the Belding Theater on May 2, 2004.  Captain Laura O’Connell’s program included rousing marches, symphonic selections and Patriotic medleys that will highlight the musicianship and versatility of the band.  Highlighting the performance will be a composition by composer Robert Sheldon, commissioned by the Foot Guard to honor the Band’s 100th anniversary.   In addition to the Centennial Concert, the First Company's Band held numerous concerts and Outreach activities during its Centennial year.
