BECOMING ONE OF THE
GOVERNOR'S OWN...

are encouraged to browse this website and its photo gallery to become acquainted with who we are and what we do. Many
frequently asked questions are answered on the "info" page.
More information may be obtained by contacting Staff Sergeant Mike Chiaro

Prior Military
Service
Prior military service is always welcome, but is not necessary. New
members will be assigned to a training NCO for training that includes drill,
manual of arms, military courtesy, and proper wear of 1GFG uniforms.
Additional training occurs each summer during our annual training at the state
National Guard reservation in Niantic. Regardless of any prior or
current military service, all members start off in rank as a private
E-2. This is due to our Table of Organization, which is established
by state statute, and to our classification as separate and distinct from
federal military units.
